The claims, which were approved on June 28, 2022, total $6,310 and are as follows:

  • Fly Jamaica Airways: One claim to assist two consumers, totalling $2,588
  • Jet Airways: One claim to assist four consumers, totalling $2,322
  • Sunmed Holidays Inc.: One claim to assist two consumers, totalling $1,400

In addition, the following claim was denied as it was received beyond the filing deadline:

  • Fly Jamaica Airways: One claim for two consumers, totalling $2,190

In other news, Brian McKinlay, who conducted business as Meridien Cottages, has been convicted of one count of operating as a travel agent without being registered, following charges laid by TICO.

McKinlay operated a website where consumers could book overnight accommodations at various cottages. While most of the cottages listed on the website were owned by McKinlay, there were listings for two cottages that were owned by a third party.

McKinlay has been sentenced in Court to a $2,500 fine, including a victim fine surcharge, as well as a two-year probation.
